Background

Mr. Townsend earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Northwestern State University, then his Juris Doctor with Cum Laude honors from Southern University Law Center. He has family members in legal practice and pursued appellate court experience from the start. During law school he externed for the Honorable Jeff Thompson at the Louisiana Court of Appeal, Second Circuit in Shreveport. He then clerked for the Honorable Jewel E. Welch with the Louisiana Court of Appeals, First Circuit in Baton Rouge, and earlier clerked at the Red River Parish Courthouse, 39th Judicial District. These appellate clerkships gave him experience in legal research, brief writing, and appellate strategy that supports his preparation at every stage of litigation. He joined Morris & Dewett in July 2023.

Honors and recognition

Mr. Townsend was selected to the Louisiana Super Lawyers Rising Stars list in 2025 and 2026, a recognition limited to no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys under 40 or in practice ten years or less. He earned this designation in his first two years of eligibility.
