Our Shreveport personal injury firm has taken steps to give back by donating to The Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children's Cancer. The foundation began in 1994 in honor of young Michael Hoefflin who suffered from recurrent brain cancer. During their son's struggle, Michael's parents, family, and friends came together to form the foundation in his name with the aim of helping children with cancer.
Sadly, Michael passed away in 1996, but not before having a sizeable impact in the lives of those who knew him, as well as inspiring the foundation. The Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children's Cancer continues to fight alongside other children diagnosed with all types of cancer with the goal of finding a cure.
The foundations goals include:
- Attaining better treatments and cures through medical research
- Raising awareness of childhood cancer
- Assisting local children and their families both emotionally and financially
What does the foundation do?
The Michael Hoefflin Foundation works on behalf of families of children diagnosed with cancer in Santa Clarita, California and the surrounding valleys.
They provide tangible assistance to roughly 500 local families with services that include:
- Grocery assistance
- Gasoline assistance
- Information and referrals
- Monthly support groups
- Counseling and tutoring
- Financial assistance
The outreach program works with local hospitals by providing "Kare Kits" to those recently diagnosed with cancer and their families. Kare Kits include supplies needed for lengthy hospital stays, including grocery and gas cards, a special blanket for the patient and a notebook of resources for the parents.
