Child Killed in Car Crash Due to Lack of Car Seat or Buckle

Tragedy struck the people of Ascension Parish, Louisiana after a deadly accident on the LA-44 this morning. According to Fox News, a little 5 year old was killed in a car crash because they were not wearing a seatbelt, nor was there a car seat available. Police reports claim that this road is in fact a dangerous one to travel on; however it makes seatbelts for both adults and children all the more important.

Sadly the state of Louisiana sees car accidents on a daily basis, and the majority of fatalities occur when a person is not properly fastened with a seatbelt. While seatbelts may be the last thing on your mind when in a hurry in the morning, in the event of a car crash, that buckle just may be the one thing that keeps your body from being ejected from the car onto the ground around. During those rollover accidents, it is the victims that are ejected from the car that have the greater chance of being killed than those with the buckle.

What is so shocking to the community is the news of who was thrown from the vehicle in this morning's crash. Rather than being an adult who chose to make the decision of not wearing a seatbelt, it was a little 5 year old child; a person who had no knowledge of the necessity of a seat belt. While this child should have been sitting in a car seat to be legally traveling, they were not; nor were they buckled in by the adult strap either.

Louisiana State Trooper, Jerod Sandifer, states that they have seen far too many accidents like this happen because of the dangerous roads. At this point in the investigation they believe that the car was going around the curve and lost control, running their vehicle off the roadway and ejecting the child. Kent Schexnaydre, a city councilmember, claims that they have been fighting with law makers for years to do something about the dangerous road; stating that too many lives have been hurt and lost because of it.

Councilman Schexnaydre states that they have been pleading with lawmakers for too long, and something needs to be done about the safety in their community. While it is absolutely essential to realize that wearing a seatbelt is a matter of life and death in some accidents, there is also the obvious factor in this community that the roadways are unsafe and many lives are being placed at risk as a result.
