Man Killed in Suspected DWI Accident in Washington Parish

On Sunday, December 8, one person was killed and two others injured in a head-on collision that police believe was caused by an intoxicated driver. The accident occurred shortly before 6:00 am in Washington Parish, when a northbound 35-year-old driver veered into the south lane, crashing into a truck. The truck driver was wearing his seat belt, but was critically injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The 35-year-old driver and a passenger in his car sustained minor injuries and were hospitalized. This crash is being investigated, and toxicology tests are still pending, and the driver responsible is facing charges of a DWI, vehicular negligent injury, and vehicular homicide.

In spite of the severity of such criminal charges, it is often the innocent victims of drunk driving accidents who suffer most. While offenders might face years in prison, families face the loss of loved ones. And there is no amount of compensation that can undo that. But claims do exist to enable families to at least overcome the financial hardships placed on them by another's negligent actions. When families are burdened with medical costs, the loss of wages, and funeral expenses, a wrongful death claim can cover all this and more. It is the compensation that such families deserve, and it can also hold accountable the parties responsible for the tragedy.

When you and your family suffer from an accident caused by someone else's recklessness, you should not be left to foot the bill for their negligent choices.
